Journals and planners are rising in popularity in a big way – and if you’re one of the thousands of stationery addicts out there, you’ll know just how fabulous it feels to treat yourself to a new notebook! Some notebook covers can be less than inspiring, and it’s tricky to know how to get creative with them to create something you really WANT to write inside! The answer? Washi Tape! This fantastic tape is taking the craft world by storm, as it’s SUCH an easy way to add colour and charm to a whole range of materials and projects in an instant! Not only can you use washi tape to give the outside of your notebook instant personality, but you can go on to use it on the inside too, making it a craft cupboard essential. What to do with Washi Tape Header

I have loads of boring notebooks that I buy because they are inexpensive, and I always need a notebook in my bag.  Revamping with washi tape is such a great way to change the look of your book: it’s quick, you don’t need a load of craft stuff, and the results are stunning and instant!

These also make excellent, inexpensive gifts that you can really start to personalise, and are very quick to make. You could even create things to sell at craft fairs – If you have stamps in your stash, get stamping in the pages, and create colouring books for children’s parties!

You Will Need:

Step One:

Make a cup of tea, find an old notebook that you would like to cover, grab your washi tape, and begin! Layer your washi tape down the notebook, or create your own crazy pattern.

Overhang the ends as you go; this makes it quicker to do, and you can use the off-cuts later in the project.

When you have finished decorating the front cover, turn the book over and trim the ends from the back, for a neat finish.

Keep all these off-cuts to one side, so you can use them to decorate the inside pages of your book later on.

Turn over and repeat on the back of the note book if you wish.

Step Two:

You can now decorate some of the pages inside using the off-cuts from the front cover!

Washi Tape Project Step 2

Use more washi tape if you run out.  Don’t feel you have to decorate every page, just a touch here and there makes a big difference!

Washi Tape Project Step 2

Think about what you might use your book for; you could use your washi tape to section off pages.

Step Three:

Finish by attaching some ribbon to your notebook.  Run a piece of double sided sticky tape (I have used red liner tape, this is a good strong bond), horizontally all the way across the front, round the spine and the back of the book.

Washi Tape Project Step 3

Cut a good length of ribbon and find the centre-point of the length you’ve cut; make sure the centre-point starts near the spine of the book, and smooth the ribbon across the tape.

Washi Tape Project Step 3

Tie a nice bow at the end of the book and add a rhinestone.

Finally, admire your lovely new notebook… and prepare to make loads more when your friends see how fabulous it looks!
