Debbie Shore’s Fabric Christmas Tree

Debbie Shore’s Fabric Christmas Tree

Christmas is right around the corner now, and Christmas tree decorations are on everyone’s crafty minds… but what about the rest of your home? Once the tree itself is covered in baubles and sparkle, how do you plan on adding festive touches to your tables, windowsills and mantelpieces this December? We think we’ve found the perfect solution in this gorgeous fabric Christmas Tree project from the fabulous Debbie Shore. Check out Debbie’s video tutorial below and see exactly how it’s made, then you can add multiple Christmas trees to your home in time for the big day! Why not create a little forest of multicoloured Suffolk puff trees in varying sizes? Try decorating with buttons, sequins or even adding lights for a truly festive finish!

Finished size: 9” tall; 6” across

You Will Need:

Materials for two trees:

For one tree, cut:

  • 10 circles of fabric, one measuring 12” across, then 11”, 10”, 9”, 8”, 7”, 6”, 5”, 4” and 3”. You will find a sliding gauge useful for this!
  • 10 circles of foam, one measuring 6”, then 5.5”, 5”, 4.5”, 4”, 3.5”, 3”, and 2.5” [These are half the size of the circles, you don’t need one for the smallest fabric circle]

Debbie Shore’s Fabric Christmas Tree – Step by Step Instructions:

Step 1:

Make a running stitch around the edge of the smallest circle and pull to gather, then knot.

Step 2:

Fuse a foam circle to each of the fabric circles; make sure you use a foam circle that measured half the size of the fabric.

Step 3:

Sew a running stitch around the edge of each circle, pull to gather and knot to secure the stitches.

Step 4:

Repeat with all the circles.

Step 5:

Take the doll needle and strong thread, push the needle through the centre of the large circle with the gathers on top. Thread all the circles onto the needle, in decreasing size order.

Step 6:

When you come to the last circle, thread the unpadded Suffolk puff on top with the gathered side down, then take the needle through the bead, and back through all the circles again. Knot at the base.

Step 7:

Use hot glue to secure the tree to the top of the pot. Decorate with beads.

Spread the Joy of Handmade This Christmas

Spread the Joy of Handmade This Christmas

Whilst Christmas is a time filled with excitement and joy for most, there are some who can find the festive period a tough one to get through. At Create and Craft, our mission is to ensure that no tree is left bare, no home is left out, and no person is left lonely this year! Have you seen our #lonelytree yet? Our mission is to add colour, fun and creativity, to spread the joy of Christmas far and wide! In the run-up to Christmas, we’re challenging crafters around the world to get creative, and share the Christmas message by making, sharing and inspiring. Don’t craft alone – invite family and friends you haven’t seen in a while to get creative with you! Why not introduce someone to the world of crafting and teach them how they too can rekindle the fun of Christmas, by making their very own cards and decorations? Do you have loved ones far away? Send them handmade gifts in the post!
