Sara Naumann’s Sweet and Simple Woodland Valentine’s Day Treats

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be overcomplicated – and your romantic crafts needn’t be either! In this beautiful bundle of easy-to-follow projects, papercraft designer Sara Naumann shows you how you can utilise Hunkydory’s adorable Foxy and Friends Bundle to create your own selection of heartwarming cards ideal for sending to loved ones this Valentine’s Day. These delightful woodland inspired projects are the perfect combination of on-trend motifs like foxes, deer and squirrels, and luxurious metallic-laced accents.

And now, it’s over to Sara, to tell us exactly how she created these lovely designs!

Here I’m using the Hunkydory Foxy and Friends collection, which includes all the cardstock, papers and toppers you’ll need. My confession: Once I started playing with this pack, I found it nearly impossible to stop! It was so much fun to create cards (plus a gift bag!) with these sweet images. And because everything is coordinated, it takes the guesswork out of mixing and matching papers. You can easily create sweet and simple projects for Valentine’s Day – and beyond!

You will need:

Design Tips:

  • To make my cardblanks from a sheet of cardstock, I use a scoring blade in my paper trimmer, then reinforce the fold with a bone folder.
  • Store loose toppers and frames in a clear zipper bag to keep them together and undamaged!

I’m Nuts About You Card:

This fun design features an attention-grabbing focal element, making it quick and easy to create a simple card with lots of visual impact.

Step 1:

Fold the floral metallic card in half to form an 11.5cm x 21cm card blank.

Step 2:

Glue the pink frame to a piece of blue card, then glue the squirrel focal in the centre. Once complete, stick this to the card front.

Step 3:

Glue blue ribbon behind the “I’m Nuts About You” circle and adhere to the card front, with foam mounting squares. To decorate, add pink pearl accents as shown, and stick a bow in the top left corner of the card.

Two Little Foxes Card:

Feel free to mix and match the frames and toppers between colourways in the collection. Here, the orange floral frame coordinates with the foxes, while the purple topper and card base match perfectly.

Step 1:

Fold the pre-scored card blank in half, and glue the metallic floral frame to the card front.

Step 2:

Glue the two foxes topper to the card centre, and add rhinestone accents as shown.

Step 3:

Finally, tie a bow in pink ribbon, and glue to the top left corner.

You’re So Deer To Me Card:

You can add more layers to your design with a combination of patterned papers. Help the patterns to stand out—rather than compete—by mounting them onto a solid card, as you see here. The kraft card helps the dot paper to stand out from the floral.

Step 1:

Fold white card into a 17.5cm x 12.5cm card blank, then cover the front with orange floral card.

Step 2:

Mount a 5cm-wide strip of orange dots paper on kraft card and glue to the card front, toward the left side. Next, add a 1cm-wide strip of kraft card on top.

Step 3:

Add two paper doilies: one at the top right and the other at the bottom left.

Step 4:

Glue the green frame to the card front, then glue the deer topper in the centre.

Step 5:

Add the “You’re so Deer to Me” tag in the bottom right corner, placing a green bow at the top.

Just For You Gift Bag:

This little gift bag is the perfect size for some Valentine’s treats! I got the brown paper lunch bag at my local supermarket, and it’s just right for dressing up with these sweet toppers.

Step 1:

Cut a 10.5cm x 15.5cm piece of floral patterned paper. Mount on kraft card, then on pink stripe paper. Glue this to the front of the gift bag, close to the bottom edge.

Tip: You may need to adjust the height of your papers, depending on how much you want to fold down the top of the bag.

Step 2:

Glue the foxes topper to the front of the bag, and add the two birds and “just for you” topper with foam mounting squares.

Step 3:

Fold down the top of the gift bag. (Mine is folded 5cm.) and glue a strip of pink stripe paper across the folded flap. Next, mount a 2-cm wide strip of floral paper on kraft card, then glue across the flap.

Step 4:

Fold a paper doily over the bag top. Glue a fox topper to the flap, then secure closed with a small wooden clothespeg. For a pretyy finishing touch, tie a bow in purple ribbon, and glue to the peg.

To Someone Special Fold Out Card

I often find it hard to create just the right card for kids—but this fun pull-out card, with it’s sweet little bunny and rainbow, is just the thing for my seven-year-old daughter!

Step 1:

Remove the centre circular image from the pre-scored card blank and set aside. Glue the bunny to peek through the circle.

Step 2:

Position the triangular cardstock piece so the circular frame lines up with the circle on the pre-scored card blank. Use double-sided tape to adhere the tab on the triangular piece to the inside of the card front. Now you will have three panels.

Step 3:

Add the “To Someone Special” topper to the front of the triangular piece with foam tape. Adhere the leaves and roses next to the circular frame, and add pearl accents to finish!
