Bold & Beautiful Quilled Sugar Skull Art Tutorial

You Will Need:

Step 1:

Trim white card to 20cm square. Draw a skull shape on black card and eye sockets on white card. Cut out the pieces then adhere on top of the white card.

Step 2:

Trim orange and brown lengths of quilling paper to 6cm long. Use a quilling tool to roll the pieces into tight coils, gluing the ends in place. Adhere the tight coils around the eye sockets.

Step 3:

Roll sixteen lengths of white quilling paper into loose coils in slightly different sizes. Pinch one end of each coil then flatten the other end to create teeth. Adhere in place under the eyes, starting with the bigger teeth in the centre and the slightly smaller ones either side.

Step 4:

Roll two lengths of white quilling paper into loose coils then pinch one end to create teardrops. Glue together down the centre to create a nose then adhere in place. Decorate the cheeks and chin with tight coils and pinched and shaped loose coils.

Step 5:

Glue two lengths of navy and one length of purple quilling paper together then roll into a tight coil and adhere towards the top of the skull. Roll orange and red quilling papers into loose coils, pinch both ends, then shape to create petals. Adhere around the tight coil.

Step 6:

Create two other flowers using a mixture of tight coils and loose, shaped coils, then adhere in place across the top of the skull.

Step 7:

Make tiny flowers from short lengths of quilling paper then adhere in between the other flowers. Make leaves from shaped loose coils then adhere around the flowers with three loose scrolls.

Your stunning quilled sugar skull art is complete! Time to frame it and hang it pride of place, ready for the spookiest season of the year to begin!
