Pretty In Paper: Easy Origami Bowl Tutorial
Here’s a simple yet stylish (and incredibly crafty!) way to calm the chaos of your desk or dressing table, using only the power of patterned paper! Check out Sarah Jackman-Read’s tutorial below and follow along, step by step, to create your own impressive origami bowl perfect for storing all your loose trinkets and stationery supplies.
You Will Need:
Trim a piece of patterned paper 16cm square. Lay it down flat so the side you wish to be seen on the bowl is facing upwards. Fold in half, open up, then turn and fold in half again.
Turn the paper over then fold across on the diagonal. Open up then fold the other way. Turn the paper back to the right side then lay it with a point at the top.
Gently tuck the sides in and fold the top point down to the bottom point. Flatten down to create a square then turn so the bottom point is facing upwards.
Fold the top point down to the bottom then crease along the horizontal edge. Fold the point back up then bring it down to the creased edge and crease again. Tuck the point under the flap, flatten, then flip over and repeat on the other side.
Turn the paper over from the left so the wrong side is showing then fold the middle points either side into the centre. Crease down both sides then flip over and repeat on the other side.
Bring the top point down to the bottom point, crease then bring the point back up so the base of it is in line with the bottom of the flap. Crease again then tuck the point inside the flap. Crease flat then flip over and repeat on the other side.
Crease all the sides then carefully open the box and fold the base flat. Carefully crease around the edges of the base.
Now your first origami bowl is complete! Time to make a couple of colourful comrades, then place your crafty creations on your desk, dressing table, workspace – or wherever else could do with a touch of organisation!
