This beautiful paper flower design makes the perfect giftable piece of decor for someone special! Create a selection of pretty papercraft flowers, then mount and frame them in the shape of your recipient’s initial. Ideal for decorating nurseries, gifting for Mother’s Day and more, this lovely papercraft project is a great way for intermediate papercrafters to get creative. With a few basic tools and techniques you can create an array of 3D flowers that can be displayed and admired for many years to come. Check out Sarah Jackman-Read’s tutorial below, and learn how.
Time to Make: 2 hours
You Will Need:
- White and coloured card
- Scoring board and tool
- Shaping tool
- Glue gun and glue sticks
- 3cm circle die or punch
- PVA glue
- Large adhesive pearls
- White box frame
Trim white card to fit inside the frame. Lightly draw out an ‘M’ (or letter of your choice) on the card using a pencil and ruler.
Trim four pieces of pink card 7cm square then fold in half, quarters then eights. Trim away the point and trim a curve across the top. Unfold each piece then cut one petal from one piece, two from another and three from another. Trim the final piece in half then roll one half up and glue in place. Glue the other pieces back together, laying one petal on another then glue and shape the petals. Glue together starting with the largest piece at the bottom then glue the rolled piece in the centre.
Trim seven 7.5cm diameter circles from peach card then, starting at the outer edge, trim a spiral in the circles finishing on the centre. Starting on the outside, roll each circle up then glue in place underneath. Flatten each roll slightly.
Trim 16 petals from pale pink card 2.5 x 3.5cm then cut a slit about 1cm up each one. Fold one side of the slit over the other then glue in place and shape each petal. Glue five petals around a small card circle then layer four, four then three on top. Trim contrasting card 20 x 1cm, roll up, then glue in the centre.
Trim four pieces of pink card 15 x 6cm then score down 0.5cm apart. Cut each piece into four 1.5cm strips then concertina fold each piece.
Glue together four strips, lay on a flat surface, bring the inner edges together in the middle to form a folded circle then glue a small card circle to the back. Turn over and glue a button to the front.
Arrange the flowers over the drawn ‘M’ then glue in place.
Add large adhesive pearls to the centres of the coiled circles, then place inside the box frame.
Now your gorgeous paper flower letter design is complete and ready to be hung at home, or gifted to someone special.
