Needle Felt Narwhal Tutorial:
Use a small polystyrene egg in the crater of the body. To shape the narwhal’s body, layer white wool into the egg, as shown in the picture.
Poke until it becomes firm. Be patient with this, it takes time.
Colour the body with blue-grey wool. First, use a felting needle tool to colour it. Once it is fully coloured, use a thin felting needle to achieve a smoother look.
Narwhal’s have a lighter colour at the bottom of the body, so I left it as the white wool.
Make the tail by felting a flat piece of felt, and working it into the shape of a tail.
Remember to poke both sides until it is well felted.
Create two flippers in the same way.
Time to assemble it your narwhal!
After attaching the tail to the body, layer it with thin wool as shown to smooth the surface, and also to strengthen the attachment.
Layer the top side as well.
I wanted to add specks of white wool, for added detail!
Make holes for the eyes using scissors. Glue the eyes and put them in.
Attach light blue (or you can use white and then some black) wool right beside the eye as shown.
Use a thin felting needle for details like this.
Roll a piece of thin black wool and then create the mouth as shown.
Make a Narwhal tusk in the same way as the tail, and attach.
Make holes for the eye-pins using scissors at the top of the Narwhal. Insert the eye-pins, adding a little glue before putting these in.
Thread some blue felt strands though the hole of the eye-pins and felt into place; this will help keep it secure. Add a large jump ring and chain to the eye-pins.
Pop on a couple of drops of your favourite essential oils, and your needle felt narwhal is now ready to hang in the car, on your handbag, or wherever else you want to add your cute little creation!
