Baby Lion Crochet Headband Pattern:
Measure the head of the recipient. This headband is a child’s size 16”/41cm. The gauge is 3 chain stitches to 1”/2.5cm. So if you need a size of 18”/46cm then you need to add 6 chain stitches. Always add an extra chain to the calculated length.
Make an adjustable slip knot, and ch49.
Row 1: Turn chain over to reveal the three parts of every stitch, with the inner part looking like a spine. Work dc into each chain using this inner part of the stitch.
1dc into 2nd chain from hook, 1dc in every chain to end (48dc)
Leave slip knot slightly loose.
Row 2: 1ch, working in back loop only of each stitch, dc across. This creates a ridge line with the remaining front loop of each stitch.
Row 3: 1ch, working in front loop only of each stitch, dc across.
Row 4: 1ch, working in back loop only of each stitch, dc across. This creates a ridge line with the remaining front loop of each stitch.
Creating the Mane:
With one stand of each colour, join yarn to first row.
Creating the Ears:
With 2 strands of Autumn Maize yarn, make an adjustable slip knot and 2ch.
Rnd 1: 6dc into first chain
Rnd 2: 2dc in every stitch (12sts)
Rnd 3: [1dc, 2dcinc] around (18sts)
Rnd 4-6: Dc all round
Ss in next dc and fasten off leaving yarn tail for sewing.
Flatten the ear and sew bottom edges together. Pull the thread to make the ear curve, then sew to headband about 4cm/1.5” from centre of band.
Sew both ends of your baby crochet headband together to create full circle, and complete the pattern. Alternatively, you could attach a small piece of elastic for more give in the headband for the wearer. Sew in all ends…. and have fun!
