Debbie Shore’s Personalised Letter Cushion Tutorial

We just love this sewing project from Debbie Shore – this gorgeous letter cushion is not only a fabulous way to add decor to bedrooms and nurseries, but it would also make a fantastic bespoke gift for so many occasions too! The letter ‘M’ makes this particular project spot-on for Mother’s Day, but you could modify it for so many other events. Imagine creating a ‘MR and ‘MRS’ set for newlyweds, or a new baby’s initial as a personalised ‘welcome to the world’ gift!

Letter Cushion Step-by-Step Tutorial:

Step 1:

Cut two pieces of fabric from your ‘M’ pattern.

Step 2:

Cut two 2.5” wide strips of contrast fabric, and sew them right sides together.

Step 3:

Pin the centre seam of the long strip right sides together to the centre top of one ‘M’ piece. Sew from this point around one side until you meet the straight centre of the letter; leave that section unsewn. Turn your work around, and repeat with the next side. Your long strip of fabric should be longer that the outside of the letter.

Step 4:

Crease the strip of fabric where it meets the corners of the letter and mark these points, this will help to align the two sides of the cushion without twisting. Pin these points to the corners of the second side of fabric, right sides together, and sew.

Step 5:

Turn the right side out and stuff with toy filler.

Step 6:

Fold the long strips over the base of the cushion, trim if necessary, and hand sew the opening closed.

Tie the ribbon into a bow and sew or glue this to one side of the cushion, adding the silk flower to finish!
