DIY Journal Pouch: Store Your Supplies With Your Journal

Bullet journaling has taken the world by storm, and more of us than ever before have taken to journaling as a method of mindfulness, creativity…. and fun! So to make journaling on-the-go even easier, the fantastic Debbie Shore has created this gorgeous little journal pouch, that allows you to store all your journaling essentials in one handy place… and then attach them to your journal itself. Now, whenever creativity strikes, you’ll have all your journaling essentials to hand! The front is ideal for keeping your phone and a pen instantly accessible, whilst a larger zipped compartment acts like a pencil case for you to store a selection of colours, stickers and more. If you’re not into journaling, this would make a gorgeous gift for the office too!
You Will Need:
- 18” x 9” fabric 1 [farm house]
- 18” x 6” fabric 2 [orange]
- 6” x 9” fusible foam stabiliser
- 16” of 1” wide elastic
- 10” zip
Finished pouch fits a 8.5” x 12” notebook.
How To Make a DIY Journal Pouch:
Step 1:
Cut one piece of fabric 1, and three pieces of fabric 2, all measuring 6” x 9”. These should sit in the centre of your notebook with space all around.
Step 2:
Cut two pieces of fabric 2 measuring 6” x 6”, and two pieces of fabric 1 measuring 6” x 4.5”. Sew each pair right sides together across the top, fold to the right side, and edge-stitch along the seams.
Step 3:
Fuse foam to the wrong side of the large piece of fabric 1. Place the larger pocket over the top, raw edges meeting, and sew along the centre to form two pockets.
Step 4:
Place the smaller pocket over the top. Tack across the bottom and sides.
Step 5:
Sew the zip, facing downwards over the right-hand side.
Step 6:
Sew one piece of fabric 2 to the opposite side of the zip.
Step 7:
Sew the remaining two pieces of fabric 2 to the opposite side of the zip, sandwiching the zip in between the two pieces.
Step 8:
Measure and mark the centre top and bottom of the pocketed side, and sew the elastic to these marks. Trim the ends of the zip, hand-sew the open ends together.
Step 9:
With the zip open, fold the lining pieces together and the outer sides together, and sew all the way round. When you approach the zip, push it to the lining side. Leave a turning gap of about 4” in one side of the lining.
Step 10:
Turn the right side out, and sew the opening closed.
Step 11:
Push the lining inside the bag, and press.
Step 12:
Wrap the pouch around the cover of your notebook, fill with all your journaling essentials – and now you’re ready to get creative, whenever the mood strikes!
