Hot Glue Gun Hacks You Need To Try
Gone are the days of just using a glue gun to stick together your crafting projects! That’s right, from humble beginnings, the glue gun has risen to glory in its own crafty right – now you can use it to create your own jewellery, home decor, art, and more! Here are just some of the awesome glue gun hacks we’ve fallen in love with at Create and Craft…
Bespoke Fridge Magnets:
These awesome little DIY fridge magnets are the perfect place to start if you’re keen to get creative with the glue gun. Not only are they super-easy to make, but they’ll come in useful too! Begin by grabbing yourself an empty silicon mould – there are so many shapes to choose from, but we love these adorable little hearts! Place a magnet into the bottom of each recess, making sure that it sits in the middle, then half-fill each shape with glue.
Allow this first layer to dry for around 7 minutes, then fill to the top with a second layer of a glue, in a different colour.
Once the top layer of glue is completely dry, you can pop your gorgeous little magnets out of the mould, and put them to good use!
Super Glue Gun Stamp Seals:
Want to give your invitations and greetings cards a gorgeous vintage finish? Add a stunning seal in a regal-coloured glue for instant impact! Not only is the glue perfect for creating the seal itself, but it’ll enable you to quickly and easily put together a pretty stamper or two, too! Simply grab a patterned button, an old charm or pendant, or even a coin, and stick it to a block of wood using your glue gun. In a matter of minutes, you’ll be able to add creative seals to anything you can get your hands on!
Think thank-you cards, wedding stationery, party invitations, gift wrap and more… simply lay your project out flat, then add a small circle of coloured glue using your glue gun, and let it sit for around 10 seconds… then stamp!
Apply your stamp slowly and gently, and hold it in place for 5 – 10 seconds, until you can feel the glue beginning to harden underneath, then slowly remove the stamper to reveal your work!
DIY Ring Holder:
Here’s a fantastic way to put an old book to good use… turn it into a gorgeous ring holder!
Start by leaving your book open under a weight to flatten it slightly, preferably overnight if you can. Next, divide the pages evenly into 8-10 sections (you can can separate these using paperclips, to make life easier!) The first and last cluster of pages that you’ve sectioned off will lay flat on the book’s inside cover, so you may want to keep these out of the way by clipping them to the cover for the time being.
Taking the second section of pages, run a line of glue in between this and the third section of paper, near the spine of the book. Fold the second section of pages in over itself, towards the spine of the book and hold into place on the line of glue. Once this has started to set, you may need to run another line of glue along the fold to ensure that the edges of all the pages are covered, and glued into place. Repeat this for each remaining section of pages, until your book looks like this…
Leave your book to dry, and then add all your gorgeous sparklers to create not only a useful ring holder… but a bold and beautiful display!
DIY Glue Gun Jewellery
Not only is glue gun jewellery great fun to make, but it also means that you can wear stunning jewellery creations that are totally unique to you… because you’ll have created the beads yourself!
To make these gorgeous marbled effect beads, simply insert half of one coloured glue stick into your glue gun, followed by half of another colour, then dispense lots of small ‘glue buttons onto a heat-proof mat, until you have as many beads as you need!
Leave these dots to dry, then pierce them using a sharp needle or awl in the centre of each shape. Now they’re ready to be threaded onto bracelets, necklaces, earrings and more! You could create full matching sets for yourself, or give individual pieces as gifts.
Crafty Christmas Glue Gun Hacks:
Who doesn’t love getting extra crafty at Christmas?! ‘Tis the season to get out the glue gun, because there’s just SO much to make! Think festive card toppers, hanging decorations, gift tags and more…
Fill a festive mould, allow to dry, then add to a card-front to create 3-dimensional card toppers!
Or you could use a variety of coloured glues to add intricate detailing to existing cardboard or wooden designs with ease.
We just love the adorable little gift tags below!
Try combining glue gun creations with other materials to create an adorable mixed media finish that oozes creativity! The gorgeous snowman in the middle has been created using two white glue gun buttons, and a strip of festive ribbon!
