Create Cute Coasters with our FREE Crochet Leaf Pattern!
Autumn may bring darker evenings and cooler weather, but it’s not all bad – the stunning colour changes that we see in nature at this time are certainly a sight to behold! Bright green leaves slowly change to gorgeous gold, burnt orange, and fiery red shades as they fall from the trees. But don’t fret about raking the lawn just yet – instead put the kettle on, put your feet up, and get to work on our latest free crochet pattern – this gorgeous autumnal crochet leaf! These beautiful crochet leaves take around 30 minutes to create, and would make fantastic coasters… or alternatively you could string them together to create eye-catching autumn bunting! Check out Mandy Cameron’s crochet leaf pattern below, and get your hook ready…
Time to Make: 30 minutes per leaf, approximately
Skill Level: Accomplished Beginner
You Will Need:
- Caron Simply Soft Aran yarn in following colours: Gold, Burgundy, Bone, Sunset Autumn
- 5mm crochet hook
- Stitch Marker
- Yarn Needle
- adjustable slip knot = magic ring
- ch = chain
- ss = slip stitch
- sk1 = skip/miss next stitch
- dc = double crochet
- 2dcinc = 2 double crochet into next stitch
- Htr = half treble crochet
- tr = treble crochet
- 2trinc = 2 treble crochet in next stitch
- dtr = double treble crochet
- 3ch picot = make 3 chain then slip stitch into first ch
Top Tip: When joining rounds, make sure you pick up 2 parts of the ch stitch. If you only pick up one you will create a loose stitch and a hole.
Step-by-Step Crochet Leaf Pattern:
Make an adjustable slip knot and ch3 (acts as first tr).
Rnd 1: 11tr into first ch, join with ss into 3rd ch of beginning ch3. Ss into next st to be in the correct position to start round 2.
Tighten slip knot.
Rnd 2: 3ch, 1tr in same st as base of ch, 2trinc in every stitch around (24tr) move marker to st on hook.
You may need to tighten the slip knot again; once round is complete, you will be able to sew this in and secure.
Rnd 3: 2dc, *sk1, 5tr all in next st, sk1, 1dc*. Repeat from *to* five times, 1dc in each of the last 2sts.
1htr, 2trinc, (2dtr, 3chpicot, 1dtr) all in next st, 2trinc, 1htr, 1dc in next dc.
Fasten off, and sew in ends.
And there you have it, your crochet leaf is complete! And since they only take around 30 mins each to make… you can create a hole set of pretty autumnal leaves in a single afternoon!
