How to Sew Your Own Face Mask Holder
Step 1:
Cut out your fabric pieces to size.
Step 2:
The smaller piece of fabric is your side tab. Press the long sides in 1cm each side, and then fold it in half length-ways and press again. Top stitch along the open long edge. Feed one end through the D-ring at the base of your swivel clip and fold the fabric tab in half so that the raw edges meet.
Step 3:
Place the raw ends of the tape in line with the edge of your top fabric, 3cm down from the top short edge.
Pin in place.
Step 4:
Place your top and lining fabrics together, right sides together, and pin all the way around. The swivel clip should be enclosed inside and not on the outside.
Stitch all the way around 1cm in, leaving an open 7cm gap down one of the long edges. Trim the excess from the corners.
Step 5:
Turn the fabric through the gap.
Pull out the corners with a pin to make them nice and sharp. Press along all the edges, including the gap.
Step 6:
Cut an 11cm length of hook and loop tape. Position the loop side on the lining side of the project along the short edge opposite to the clip. Stitch all the way around. Turn the project the other way so that you are looking at the short edge with the clip, on the top fabric side. Position the loop side of the tape in line with the bottom of the clip fabric tab, 2cm down from the edge. Stitch around the tape.
Step 7:
Lay the project lining side up with the swivel clip at the bottom. Fold up the bottom edge 15cm. Pin down the sides. Top stitch a few mm in from the edge, all the way around. Start in one of the bottom corners, up the sides, reverse stitching over the point where the bottom short edge lies, around the top edge, pivoting in the corners, and back down the other side to stop in the opposite bottom corner.
Step 8:
Once your face mask holder is complete, pop a clean mask inside and decide where to clip it, so it’s always within easy reach, for hassle-free shopping.
