Spring Splendour: Embroidery on Tulle Tutorial
Spring is in the air, and we’re all SO looking forward to shaking off the darkness of winter, and brightening up our homes and our lives once more. And what better way to celebrate, than with a light and bright spring embroidery project from the talented Kelly Anne Jordan? This elegant embroidery on tulle tutorial takes you step-by-step through the creation of this timeless project, perfect for brightening up any nook or cranny in the home.
Time it Takes to Make: 3 – 4hrs
Skill Level: beginner
You Will Need:
- Embroidery thread in 2 shades of green and 2 or 3 shades of purple
- Embroidery hoop
- Transparent white tulle or organza fabric
- Printable pattern and stitch guide [DOWNLOAD HERE]
- Water erasable pen
- Glue gun
For a 7.5” hoop cut transparent white organza fabric to approximately 9”x 9”.
Print out the pattern and trace on to the centre of your fabric with a water erasable pen. Then put your fabric into the hoop, ensuring that it is taught.
Use a back stitch and then the wrapped stitch for the stems of the flowers. I have used full strands (6) in green and lighter shades of green for the wrapped stitch.
Try to keep all the back working hidden by hiding the loose ends behind the stitches in the back of the piece.
To make the buds/flowers, use the french knot stitch on and around the top of the stems in the 3 shades of purple.
Remove your piece from the hoop and use a damp sponge to remove the water erasable pen marks, and leave to dry.
Now put your piece back in to the hoop and ensure that it is taught. Trim off the over hanging fabric.
Hot glue the fabric to the hoop (be very careful using a glue gun as they are very hot!) Then glue some twine round the hoop back, to hide where you have glued the fabric.
To finish off, use some more twine for hanging.
That’s the end of our embroidery on tulle tutorial and your project is complete… all that’s left to do is decide where to hang it!
