DIY Star Decoration for Christmas and Beyond

DIY Star Decoration for Christmas and Beyond

This beautiful garland is a must-make for those of you who are keen to get crafting to make Christmas extra special. Featuring delicately textured clay stars, it’s the perfect way to add a little elegance to the festivities. But what we love most about this easy-to-make star decoration, is that it’d look just as lovely hung in a bedroom or hallway all year round! You could paint it in festive colours and keep it just for December displays, or leave it plain and simple if you want to use it year-round. Check out Penelope Quinn’s step-by-step tutorial below, and learn how to create your own.

You Will Need:

DIY Clay Star Decoration:

Step 1:

Clay star decoration tutorial step

Roll out your air dry clay to around 0.5cm thick. Take some time to make sure the thickness is consistent, as you’ll be cutting multiple stars, and you don’t want any of them too thin! Next, place your doily or lace over the clay, and roll this into the clay with the rolling pin – you’ll need to press quite firmly.

Step 2:

Carefully peel the doily off the clay.

Now, take your star cookie cutter and use it to cut shapes from the clay.

Step 4:

Once each star shape has been cut from the sheet of textured clay, make a small hole in the top of the stars with a straw. Leave them to dry for 24 hours.

Seal with a layer of Mod Podge once they are completely dry. Now you can paint your stars any colour you like! Coordinate them with the rest of your Christmas decorations, use metallic paints for adding sparkle, or if you love the simple finish, you could leave then white.

Finished project on display

Once painted (or not!) string them together with a piece of twine, and find the perfect spot for them to hang!
