This DIY milk carton bird feeder is not only a fantastic way to provide a feast for your feathered friends, But it’s also a great way to recycle too!
You Will Need:
- 1 Carton
- Patterned paper
- Coloured card to complement
- A glue stick
- Double sided tape
- Duct tape
- Wooden lollipop sticks
- Acrylic paint (or spray paint) in pink and aqua
- Mini pom poms
Milk Carton Bird Feeder Tutorial:
First, prepare your carton by washing well. Cut a rectangular hole in the centre; I made mine 8cm by 15cm, but use your own carton as a guide. If you have a square carton, cut off the sides at the top so it now forms a peak (this will be your roof).
Cut your wrapping paper to size (including the hole in the middle – leave a small border so you can glue the edges on the inside). Glue this to your carton using a glue stick.
Next, paint your lollipop sticks two colours that complement your paper. I used 11 sticks for this project, but you may need more or less depending on how big your carton is. Stick two pieces of double sided tape at the top and in the middle, and stick duct tape to the end. This will hold everything together. Now cut the lollipop sticks under the first piece of tape (around 2cm) – this will be the peak of your roof. Trim the rest of the lollipop sticks to around 6cm in length – this will be your roof.
Peel off the double sided tape, and stick the peak and the roof to the carton. Make some decorations, such as a sign that says ‘bird food’ and some pom pom bunting!
Stick some coloured card to the inside back of the of the carton, and then paint three stirring sticks, and stick these to the bottom of the carton using double sided tape.
Now your upcycling project is complete, it’s time to let the birds know! Find a secure branch or safe spot high off the ground in your garden to hang your milk carton bird feeder, and fill it with tasty birdseed… then sit back and wait to see who your first feathered guest is!
