Two DIY Mailbox Ideas to Fall in Love With This Valentine’s Day

What better excuse to create something lovely, than in the name of love? That's right, we're talking about Valentine's Day, and bringing you a fantastic way to get the kids involved, this February! These fun DIY mailbox designs will capture the imaginations and hearts of mini crafters everywhere... and once they're finished, you can set them loose creating their own cards for family and friends, to post inside!

How to Make a Shark DIY Mailbox

Step 1:

Make an envelope box out of a 12” square sheet of orange card using a Scoreboard with an envelope attachment, and score at 4 1/2 “ and 6”. Once complete, cut tabs as shown, ready to make your box.

Step 2:

Cut a 6” x 2” hole in the box for the mail to go through 2” from the bottom and 1” from the left hand side.

Cut out the body and head shape of the shark from blue card.

Step 4:

Cut two 2” white circles and two 1.5” circles for the eyes, and stick together with glue.

Cut 10 teeth from white card.

Cut three fins as shown.

Stick all the pieces on with glue as shown, before making up the box.

After you make up the box, add a sheet of black card 8” x 4” to the back so that when you look through the mailbox, you see black.

Add velcro to the closing at the back of your envelope box, so that the posted mail can be taken out easily.

How to Make a Unicorn DIY Mailbox

Step 1:

Make an envelope box out of a 12” square sheet of cream card using a Scoreboard with an envelope attachment, and score at 4 1/2 “ and 6”. Once complete, cut tabs as shown ready to make your box.

Cut out a hole measuring 1” x 6” for the mail ½” from the left hand side and bottom.

Before making up the box, add a sheet of black card 8” x 3” to cover the back so that the mailbox looks black inside.

Make the eyelashes by cutting a 3 ½” circle with a 3” circle die inside, and cut a 3” piece for the eye and five 1” pieces for the eyelashes.

Make up the box and stick the eye on the envelope box, 1” from top and left hand side.

Step 5:

Cut the ear as shown; the small piece using pink card, and the large piece using cream card. Adhere to the left hand corner of the box with glue.

Make the unicorn horn out of gold glitter card.

Step 7:

Cut 7 pieces of multi-coloured ribbon each 13 1/2" to form the mane, and stick inside the horn with a glue gun. Add glue to the top of the horn to secure and stick to the top left side of the box.
