Fall in Love With Our Heart Shaped Magnets!

Want to get creative ahead of the most romantic day of the year, but running low on loved-up inspiration? Let us take the hassle out of coming up with a sweet idea this year: surprise your true love on Valentine’s Day with a heartfelt message on the fridge… pinned in place with these cute heart shaped magnets! Check out Penelope Quinn’s step-by-step tutorial below, and learn how to create your own stunning little lovehearts that are as handy as they are heartfelt!
You Will Need:
- Air dry clay
- Wide lolly sticks
- Pink, white and red paint
- Paint pens in white
- Markers in red and pink
- Gold leaf
- Mod podge
- Patterned paper
- A heart cookie cutter
- Magnets
- Superglue
- Rolling pin
Step 1:
First, roll out your air dry clay so it’s about 1cm thick. Use a few lolly sticks on either side, to help you achieve even thickness.
Step 2:
Next, cut out 9 hearts from the air dry clay. You can use your finger and some water to smooth out any rough edges.
Step 3:
Let dry for 24 hours (you can put in your oven on very low heat for 10 minutes, if not completely dry). Once dry, paint a layer of Mod Podge onto each heart to seal.
Step 4:
Paint three of the hearts in red, light and bright pink. You’ll need a few coats, and to let each coat dry completely before adding the next.
Decorate with your white paint pen and markers by drawing cute faces.
Step 5:
Cut out some patterned paper, and glue onto 3 of the hearts.
Add another layer of Mod Podge, then cut out some romantic words, and stick these on top.
Step 6:
For our final three hearts, paint some Mod Podge onto part of the heart, and apply some gold leaf. After 10 minutes, brush off the excess.
Step 7:
Finally, glue the magnets onto the back (check you are putting your magnets on the right way by testing them on your fridge first!)
Once all your heart shaped magnets are complete, it’s time to start composing a love note or two to pin in place, for that special someone to find on Valentine’s Day morning!
