Brighten Someone’s Day with DIY Happy Mail
Sending mail can be a great way to brighten someone’s day, especially if they’re stuck at home, or live far away. Check out Shabneez Khan-Muztar’s tutorial on making a DIY happy mail project out of a sheet of 12”x12” paper, and create something that’s sure to bring a smile to a loved one’s face!
Time to Make: 1 hour
Skill Level: Intermediate
You Will Need:
- Heffy Doodle Stitched Alphabetters Dies
- Scoreboard and Tool
- Craft Consortium Secret Garden 12×12 paper pad and embellishments
- Advantus Tim Holtz Metallic Sticker Quotations
- Paper Trimmer
- Bakers Twine
- 1” circle die or punch
- We R Memory Keepers Envelope Punch Board
- Turquoise Card
Take a sheet of 12”x12” paper and score at 3” and 9” then turn 90 degrees and score at 3 7/8”, 4”, 8” and 8 1/8”. Cut away the top left rectangle and score the middle rectangle so it folds forward. Cut below the first rectangle and fold inwards and cut the bottom rectangle in half and fold upwards.
Start with the bottom middle rectangle and cut a sheet of paper to 5″ x 3 ½”. Add washi tape to the top and bottom and stick 3 stickers plus a sentiment as shown. Stick a piece of washi tape to the left hand side of the rectangle and stick the scene on top with glue.
For the right hand rectangle, fold the tab up and punch a semi circle then add glue to the left and right edges only to form a pocket. Cut one of the tags from the paper pad and add embellishments as shown. Punch a hole in the top and thread some bakers twine to make a little bookmark and add a key charm. Place this inside the pocket.
Make another pocket in the top middle rectangle by following the same steps as above. This time, cut a piece of paper 5″ x 3 ½” and stick a tag from the paper pad on the top of it together with a wooden butterfly embellishment, gems and a sentiment. Place this inside the pocket.
For the rectangle on the left hand side, cut a piece of paper 2 ¾” x 4”. On it, stick a piece of washi tape on the right hand side and add a fussy cut flower from the paper pad, a butterfly sticker and sentiment as shown.
For the centre, make an envelope using the WRMK envelope punch which is 5 ½” x 3 ½”. Stick washi tape around the edges. Write your letter to put inside it.
Fold your happy mail and make a belly band to go around it by taking a piece of paper 11 5/8” x 2” and folding it around your happy mail. Secure at the back with glue. On the front add a strip of washi tape to the centre then die cut ‘HAPPY MAIL’ and stick on, adding a little sentiment sticker to the bottom right hand corner to finish.
Now your gorgeous DIY happy mail is complete and ready to be posted to that special someone!
