DIY Hanging Flower Pots: Fresh Home Decor!

If you’re inspired to bring wildflowers into your home décor this spring and summer in an interesting and decorative way, then we’ve the perfect tutorial for you! Here Penelope Quinn shows you, step-by-step, how to create your own beautiful hanging flower pots that will enable you to add floral beauty and fragrance to any room of your home. It’s so simple to make, and you’ll be able to find most of the materials lying around the house.
You Will Need:
- 4 small jars – spice jars, anchovy jars or anything under 150ml is ideal! Also make sure your jar has a ‘lip’ at the top as this will help it hang from the twine
- Gold leaf
- PVA Glue
- A stiff brush
- Twine or string
- A branch around 50cm long
Hanging Flower Pots Tutorial:
Step 1:
First, clean your jar thoroughly. Haphazardly brush a thin layer of PVA around the bottom half of the jar. Leave for a couple of minutes until it feels tacky to touch.
Step 2:
Pick up a piece of gold leaf with the backing paper, and apply to the bottle. Use the backing paper or your finger to gently press down the gold leaf. Leave to dry – about 15 minutes.
Step 3:
Once the glue is dry, take a stiff brush and roughly brush away all the gold leaf that hasn’t adhered to the bottle. You should be able to see interesting cracks in the gold leaf appear.
Step 4:
To hang it on the branch, take a 60cm piece of twine, double it over, and tie so it makes a loop. Take one end, and loop it three or four times around the opening of the bottle, just under the lip. Tie it off, and use a small dab of glue to secure. Thread around the branch, and you’re done!
Now the only question is, where will you display these gorgeous hanging flower pots? We think they’d not only make a quirky home decor piece, but are perfect for parties too!
