How To Make Super Sweet Doughnut Friendship Necklaces
Do you and your bestie share a love of all things sweet and frosted? Then these BFF doughnut charms are the perfect gift! Check out Penlope Quinn’s step-by-step tutorial below and learn exactly how to create your own set of tasty-looking doughnut friendship necklaces, that you and your crafty partner in crime can wear as a celebration of your friendship!
You Will Need:
- Red, yellow, blue, pink and white polymer clay
- 2 x one ended eye pins in gold
- 2 x gold chains
- Circular cookie cutters
- Baking paper
- Craft knife
- Rubbing alcohol
First, you’ll need to make a light brown colour out of the clay. If you don’t have brown, you can use equal parts red, yellow and blue. Mix well by rolling between your hands into a snake and folding over itself. Once you are happy with the brown, add equal parts white and a little bit of yellow to make a cream doughnut pastry colour. Also mix a light pink by mixing one part red with three parts white.
Top Tip: Wipe down all your equipment with rubbing alcohol first.
Lay down some baking paper and roll both the brown and pink clay using an acrylic roller. The cream should be thicker than the pink (this will be our frosting).
Top Tip: You can use two or three lollysticks stuck together to make sure your clay is a consistent thickness when rolling it out.
Cut a circle around 5cm in diameter, and a smaller 2cm circle in the middle.
Top Tip: If your clay is sticking to your cutters, you can use a bit of rubbing alcohol to remove the bits that stick. If it’s sticking a lot, your clay is too warm. Rest in the fridge for 10 minutes to make it more workable.
Cut the pink clay to the same size as the doughnut, and cut some curves out to make it look like frosting.
Use a small amount of rubbing alcohol on your finger to smooth out any hard edges. Use a bit of liquid clay medium on the doughnut, and place the pink clay on top.
Roll tiny snakes out of pink, yellow and turquoise clay – these will be our sprinkles (mix to make the right colours if you don’t have them). Cut these to a few mm long with a blade. Carefully place these on your doughnut, and stick down with liquid clay.
Place everything in the fridge for 10 minutes. After it’s nice and cold, cut the doughnut in half with the blade.
Cut your eye pins to size, and carefully place in the top of each doughnut half.
Attach a gold necklace to each, and give one of the super sweet doughnut friendship necklaces to your bestie!
