Craft in Comfort with Our DIY Armchair Organiser!

It’s certainly true that getting creative in a craft room surrounded by all your favourite supplies is every crafter’s dream… but what about those afternoons you just want to curl up in your favourite armchair and carry on with a project? Well, we’ve got you covered, with this fantastic little armchair organiser tutorial, created by Anna Jay. This armchair caddy will help keep all your crafty essentials accessible, whilst enabling you to craft in comfort!
DIY Armchair Organiser:
To pick the right size, simply measure your armrest with the measuring tape and figure out how big you want your caddy to be.
0.4 inches seam allowance is included.
You Will Need:
- 12.6 inches x 16.5 inches iron-on interfacing (2 pieces)
- Fabric:
- 12.6 inches x 16.5 inches main fabric (2 pieces)
- 12.6 inches x 5.3 inches contrast or other different fabric for the pocket (2 pieces)
- 17.3 inches x 5.3 inches contrast or other different fabric for the pocket (2 pieces)
- A small piece of a wide elastic
- Sewing machine
- Sewing scissors
- Thread
Step 1:
Prepare the pocket pieces. To do that, put pieces of each pocket right sides together and sew the top edge. Turn to the right side and press.
Step 2:
Prepare the main pocket side by folding the pockets and pressing them in place. You can make this process easier by drawing the fold lines on the fabric and pressing along them.
In my case, it’s: 0.4 inches/0.4 inches/3.9 inches/0.4 inches/0.4 inches/0.4 inches/0.4 inches/3.9 inches/0.4 inches/0.4 inches/0.4 inches/0.4 inches/3.9 inches/0.4 inches/0.4 inches.
Step 3:
Iron on the interfacing to both of the main fabric pieces. Place both pockets on one of them and pin in place. Sew all around along the seam allowance to secure in place. Sew between the folded pockets to keep them in place.
Step 4:
Finish off the other pocket side by marking a line in the middle and sewing along it. Then put the other main fabric piece on top right sides together and pin all around the edges. Sew them together, leaving one side open (can be the bottom pocket part) to turn inside out. After turning inside out, pin together the leftover part and topstitch close to the edge.
Step 5:
Place your caddy on an armchair and decide where to place an elastic. Sew it in place.
And there you have it! Now it’s time for the best part of all – fill it with your favourite tools, and prepare for an afternoon of armchair crafting!
