Difficulty Level: Easy
You Will Need:
- Orange, brown and white felting wool
- Felting needles
- Small polystyrene egg
- Felting sponge
- Your favourite air plants!
DIY Air Plant Hanger Tutorial:
Wrap felting wool around the polystyrene egg, just a little above halfway up, so it goes around the whole egg with a little bit extra, then trim off the excess.
Using two felting needles together, stab around the egg a few times to help keep the wool in place.
Next, using the sides of the egg as a guide, stab around the egg; working along the sides of the egg and not directly into it.
Fold the excess wool around the base of the egg then stab into the egg a few times. Working towards the centre, stab the needles through the wool to start felting the base. Work along the shape of the base.
Stab along the top edge of the wool to hold it in place then stab downwards from the edge into the main body of the wool.
Keep stabbing the needles through the wool, parallel to the egg until the wool is completely felted. Gently twist to remove the egg.
Lay the pot on a felting sponge and stab along the edge inwards. Do this several times to help thicken and strengthen the edge.
Stab a few more times around the body of the pot then string several together and fill with your favourite air plants – or simply decorate with faux succulents for the same beautiful effect!
Tip: Avoid stabbing into the polystyrene egg too much, as this will disintegrate the polystyrene.
