Crochet Your Own Santa This Christmas!

Mandy Cameron is back with another beautiful crochet creation! This time, Mandy has created this wonderful crochet Santa. Perfect for dining room table decoration or even pop him next to the tree. Take a look and see if you can replicate for yourself!

Materials You’ll need:   

  • 4ply/DK 100% Hello cotton yarn 25g in black, red, pink
  • 4ply/DK 100% Hello cotton yarn 1m yellow
  • Bernat Pipsqueak in white 10g
  • 3.5 mm hook
  • Stuffing

Tension:

Is always critical and is unique to the individual, however, a tight tension is needed for this project.

Abbreviations:  UK terminology

  • sts = stitches
  • ss = slip stitch
  • ch = chain
  • dc = double crochet
  • dc2tog = double crochet two stitches together
  • 2dcinc = 2dc in next stitch

NB:  Rounds are worked in a spiral to avoid joining and making an obvious seam.  Use a marker in the stitch on the hook to indicate the beginning position of rounds and move up after every completed round.

INSTRUCTIONS:

This pattern is written using UK terminology.

ARMS: Make 2

With pink make an adjustable slip knot and ch2

Rnd 1:  Work 6dc into second chain from hook

Rnd 2:  (2dcinc, 1dc) around (9sts)

Rnd 3:  Dc around

Rnd 4:  (2dcinc, 2dc) around (12sts)

Rnd 5:  (dc2tog, 4dc) twice (10sts)

Fasten off pink, join white

Rnd 6:   Dc around

Fasten off white, join red

Rnd 7-16:  Dc around

No stuffing required

FEET: Make 2

With black, make an adjustable slip knot and ch2

Rnd 1:  Work 8dc into second chain from hook

Rnd 2:  2dc in every stitch (16sts)

Rnd 3-5:  Dc around

Rnd 6:  (dc2tog) four times, dc to end (12sts)

Rnd 7:  Dc around

Stuff bulbous toe only

Rnd 8:  (dc2tog) three times, dc to end (9sts)

Rnd 9-11:  Dc around

Fasten off leaving a tail of yarn for sewing

BODY:

With black make an adjustable slip knot and 2ch

Rnd 1: 8dc in first chain

Rnd 2: 2dc in each stitch around (16sts)

Rnd 3: (1dc, 2dcinc) around (24sts)

Rnd 4: (2dc, 2dcinc) around (32sts)

Rnd 5: (3dc, 2dcinc) around (40sts)

Rnd 6-9: Dc around

Fasten off black and join white

Rnd 10:  Dc around

Fasten off white, join red

Rnd 11:  Dc around (you will have to feel for the stitches as you will not be able to see them with this white fluffy yarn)

Rnd 12-14:  Dc around

Fasten off red, join black

Rnd 15-18:  Dc around

Fasten off black, join red

Rnd 18-20:  Dc around

At this point it is easier to sew the buckle to the belt band.

With yellow yarn make and adjustable slip knot and ch14.  Fasten off.

Sew into a square shape and add securing pin by over sewing in the same stitch across the buckle.

Rnd 21-25 :  Continuing with red for the body dc around

Rnd 26:  (3dc, dc2tog) around (32sts)

Rnd 27:  (2dc, dc2tog) around (24sts)

Rnd 28:  (1dc, dc2tog) around (16sts)

Rnd 29:  (dc2tog) around (8sts)

Slip stitch into next dc and fasten off leaving enough yarn to sew up.  Weave yarn end in and out the front loops of the 8dc of last round and pull tight to close opening.  Sew in yarn end to secure.

HAT:

With red make an adjustable slip knot and ch2

Rnd 1:  Work 6dc into second chain from hook

Rnd 2:  Dc around

Rnd 3:  (2dcinc) around (12sts)

Rnd 4-7:  Dc around

Rnd 8:  (1dc, 2dcinc) around (18sts)

Rnd 9-10:  Dc around

Rnd 11:  (2dc, 2dcinc) around (24sts)

Rnd 12:  Dc around

Rnd 13:  (3dc, 2dcinc) around (30sts)

Rnd 14:  Dc around

Rnd 15:  (4dc, 2dcinc) around (36sts)

Rnd 16:  (5dc, 2dcinc) around (42sts)

Rnd 17-19:  Dc all around

Fasten off red, join white

Rnd 20:  Dc all around

Ss into next stitch and fasten off.  Sew in all ends

NOSE: 

With pink yarn, make an adjustable slip knot and ch2

Rnd 1:  6dc into 2nd chain from hook

Rnd 2:  (2dcinc, 1dc) around (9sts)

Rnd 3-5:  Dc all around

Ss into next dc of the round and fasten off leaving enough yarn to sew up.  Stuff lightly

BEARD:

With white yarn, make and adjustable slip knot and ch8

Row 1:  1dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1dc in each ch thereafter (7dc)

Row 2-6:  Dc across

Fasten off.

FINISHING:

Sew feet to base of body and arms to upper body placing the hands towards the belt buckle.  Stuff the hat and sew from one arm to the other around the back leaving a gap at the front.  Insert beard and stitch in place.  Locate nose centrally on top of beard and under hat brim and sew in to secure.  Sew the remaining hat opening to the body shaping the brim around the nose.  Weave in all ends.
