Make Your Own Crochet Monster Storage Pouch

Do your little monsters always ditch their coats, toys and jumpers anywhere and everywhere? Well we’ve the perfect solution! These fantastically fun crochet monster storage pouches are ideal for hanging by the front door, in the playroom or even in their bedroom, to help keep the mess at bay. Check out Mandy Cameron’s crochet pattern below and learn how to create your own – then make sure to tell the kids to keep their monster well-fed!

You Will Need:

Skill Level: Easy

Abbreviations:

  • adjustable slip knot = magic ring
  • ch = chain
  • tc = turning chain
  • ss = slip stitch
  • dc = double crochet
  • 2dcinc = 2 double crochet into next stitch
  • Dc2tog = Double crochet 2 stitches together

Top Tip: As the spiral method is used (no joining with a ss or making 1ch to start round), place a stitch marker or piece of yarn at the beginning of the first round and move it up every row.

Crochet Monster Storage Pattern:

With green yarn, make an adjustable slip knot and ch2 (turning ch)

Rnd 1: 8dc into first ch. Tighten slip knot.

Rnd 2: To identify the first stitch of round 2, count back 8 sts from the hook.

Do not use the turning chain as a stitch. Work 2dcinc in every st around (16dc)

Rnd 3: (1dc, 2dcinc) around (24dc)

Rnd 4: (2dc, 2dcinc) around (32dc)

Rnd 5: (3dc, 2dcinc) around (40dc)

Rnd 6: (4dc, 2dcinc) around (48dc)

Rnd 7: (5dc, 2dcinc) around (56dc)

Rnd 8: (6dc, 2dcinc) around (64dc)

Rnd 9: (7dc, 2dcinc) around (72dc)

Rnd 10: (8dc, 2dcinc) around (80dc)

Rnd 11: (9dc, 2dcinc) around (88dc)

Rnd 12: (10dc, 2dcinc) around (96dc)

Rnd 12-14: Dc around. You will find that your work starts to cup into a bowl shape. The inside of the bowl is actually the right side, and you will need to turn it inside out unless you like the more textured finish of the wrong side.

Rnd 15: (10dc, dc2tog) around (88dc)

Rnd 16: (9dc, dc2tog) around (80dc)

Rnd 17: (8dc, dc2tog) around (72dc)

Rnd 18: (7dc, dc2tog) around (64dc)

Rnd 19: (2dc, dc2tog) 8 times, (6dc, dc2tog) 4 times

Rnd 20: (1dc, dc2tog) 8 times, (5dc, dc2tog) 4 times

Rnd 21: (dc2tog) 9 times, 1ss, fasten off.

Eyes: Make Two

With white yarn, make an adjustable slip knot and ch2 (turning ch)

Rnd 1: 8dc into first ch. Tighten slip knot.

Rnd 2: Work 2dcinc in every st around (16dc)

1ss into next dc and fasten off leaving tail of yarn for sewing to face.

With brown yarn, sew from the centre out to the top of each of the 8dc in the first round of the eye, making a star effect.

Hairy Lip:

With white yarn, make an adjustable slip knot.

*Ch13, work 1ss into second ch from hook and 1ss in each of the remaining 11ch*. From this point create another braid by repeating from *to* once more.

Ch15, work 1ss into second ch from hook and 1ss in each of the remaining 13ch.

*Ch13, work 1ss into second ch from hook and 1ss in each of the remaining 11ch*. From this point create another braid by repeating from *to* once more. Fasten off.

Hanging Loop:

Make an adjustable slip knot and ch17. 1dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1dc in every ch to end (16dc). Fasten off and, with ends, sew to top of monster.

To Make The Smaller Crochet Monster Storage:

With yellow yarn, make an adjustable slip knot and ch2 (turning ch)

Rnd 1: 8dc into first ch. Tighten slip knot.
