You Will Need:

Abbreviations:

  • adjustable slip knot = magic ring
  • ch = chain
  • ss = slip stitch
  • dc = double crochet
  • dc2tog = double crochet two stitches together
  • 2dcinc = 2 double crochet into next stitch

Top Tip: As the spiral method is used (no joining with a ss or making 1ch to start round), place a stitch marker or piece of yarn at the beginning of the first round and move it up every row.

Handy Gnome Crochet Earphone Pouch Pattern

Nose:

Make an adjustable slip knot and ch2 (turning ch)

Rnd 1: 6dc into first ch

Rnd 2: 2dcinc in every stitch around (12dc) move marker to st on hook

You may need to tighten the slip knot again and, once round 3 is complete, you will be able to sew this in and secure.

Rnd 3-4: dc around

Rnd 5: (dc2tog) around (6dc)

Fasten off leaving tail of yarn. Using the tail of yarn and yarn needle, thread through each of the 6dc and pull to close the opening. Secure and sew in end.

Head:

Make an adjustable slip knot and ch2 (turning ch)

Rnd 1: 6dc into first ch, tighten slip knot.

From the hook (not including stitch on hook) count back 6dc to ensure you use the correct st to start the next row and avoid using the turning ch. Place stitch marker through stitch on hook.

Rnd 2: 2dcinc in every stitch around (12dc) move marker to st on hook.

You may need to tighten the slip knot again and, once round 4 is complete, you will be able to sew this in and secure.

Rnd 3: (1dc, 2dcinc) around (18dc)

Rnd 4: (2dc, 2dcinc) around (24dc)

Rnd 5: Change colour to grey by using it to finish the last stitch of Rnd4. (3dc, 2dcinc) around (30dc)

Rnd 6: (4dc, 2dcinc) around (36dc) Ss into next stitch, fasten off and sew in tail end.

Rnd 8: (3dc, 2dcinc) around (15dc)

Rnd 9-10: dc around

Rnd 12: (2dc, 2dcinc) around (24dc)

Rnd 13: (3dc, 2dcinc) around (30dc)

Rnd 15: (14dc, 2dcinc) twice (32dc)

Ss into the next dc and fasten off leaving tail to sew to head.

Place the two head circles on top of each other and sew the top 6 stitches together. Place the hat over this end of the circle with the front of the hat touching the nose and sew into place, front and back, being careful not to go through all the thicknesses.

Cut 10 strands of grey 10cm (4”) long. In sets of 2 strands, make tassels on the bottom 5 stitches to create a beard. Trim to level ends.

Sew a small press stud under the beard to keep front and back head together. Wrap your ear buds and tuck them in so it looks like they are already in your gnome’s ears!
