Crochet Basket Tutorial: THE Storage Solution For Crochet Addicts!
If you’re as crazy about crochet as we are, then it’s entirely possible that you’ve got balls of yarn, packs of hooks, and countless part-finished projects stuffed in nooks, drawers and cupboards throughout your home! Which is why we think you’ll love our latest crochet project from the lovely Mandy Cameron! Below, Mandy takes you step-by-step through a crochet basket tutorial, showing you exactly how to create something that not only looks gorgeous, but will provide the perfect storage solution for your yarn and other crochet essentials! Pop it beside the sofa and sit your current crochet project inside it, so that picking up where you left off will be easy!
You Will Need:
Skill Level: Confident Beginner
- adjustable slip knot = magic ring
- ch = chain
- ss = slip stitch
- dc = double crochet
- 2dcinc = 2 double crochet into next stitch
- tc = turning chain
Top Tip: As the spiral method is used (no joining with a ss or making 1ch to start round), place a stitch marker or piece of yarn at the beginning of the first round and move it up every row.
Crochet Basket Tutorial and Pattern:
Make an adjustable slip knot and ch2 (turning ch)
Rnd 1: 8dc into first ch.
Tighten slip knot.
Rnd 2: To identify the first stitch of round 2, count back 8 sts from the hook.
Do not use the turning chain as a stitch. Work 2dcinc in every st around (16dc)
Rnd 3: (1dc, 2dcinc) around (24dc)
Rnd 4: (2dc, 2dcinc) around (32dc)
Rnd 5: (3dc, 2dcinc) around (40dc)
Rnd 6: (4dc, 2dcinc) around (48dc)
Rnd 7: (5dc, 2dcinc) around (56dc)
Rnd 8: (6dc, 2dcinc) around (64dc) By this point you will see that every increase stitch is made in the previous row increase stitches.
Rnd 8-13: Dc around. You will find that your work starts to cup into a bowl shape. The inside of the bowl is actually the ‘right’ side and you will need to turn it inside out unless you like the more textured finish of the ‘wrong’ side.
Rnd 14-20: dc around
Rnd 21: Making handles – work 8 ch, miss 8dc, 1dc in next dc, 23dc, 8ch, miss 8dc, 1dc in next dc, 23dc
Rnd 23-24: dc around.
Ss into next stitch, fasten off and sew in ends.
Now that your crochet storage basket is complete, grab the yarn, needles and pattern you need to complete your next crochet project, pop them inside, then sit this next the sofa, so you’re always ready to dive into your favourite craft!
