Crochet Autumn Garland: Cozy Home Decor
As summer draws to a close and the telltale signs of the arrival of autumn are everywhere, it’s time to dust of the crochet hooks and knitting needles, and get back to crafting cozy goodies to see us through the cooler weather. But autumnal crafting needn’t be all jumpers and hats – this crochet autumn garland created by Mandy Cameron is a fantastic way to bring the beauty of the outdoors inside, and truly celebrate the season! Skill Level: Easy/Intermediate
You Will Need:
- 6 x 25g 100% cotton yarn in green, mustard, dark red, grey, beige and brown
- 3mm hook & 6mm hook
- Yarn needle, scissors, stitch marker
• adjustable slip knot = magic ring
• ch = chain
• ss = slip stitch
• dc = double crochet
• dc2tog = double crochet two stitches together
• 2dcinc = 2 double crochet into next stitch
• htr = half treble
• tr = treble
• 2trinc = 2 treble crochet into next stitch
Top Tip: As the spiral method is used on the acorn (no joining with a ss or making 1ch to start round), place a stitch marker or piece of yarn at the beginning of the first round, and move it up every row.
Crochet Autumn Garland Pattern:
Make 12 (2 in each colour).
Make an adjustable slip knot and ch16.
1dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1dc in next 3sts, 4htr, 6tr, (6tr all in next st), turning your work 180 degrees and work down the other side of the chain using back loops of the chain stitches only to create spine, 6tr, 4htr, 4dc.
Make stalk with 6ch, 1dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1dc in next 4ch.
(1dc, 1htr, 2tr in next st, 1tr, 3ch, ss into base of tr, ss into next stitch) repeat twice.
1dc and 1htr in next st, (2tr in next st) twice, 1tr, 3ch, ss into base of tr.
1dc and 1htr in next st, (2tr in next st) 3 times taking you round to work on the other side of leaf, 1htr and 1dc in next st, (ss into next st) twice.
3ch, 1tr in base of chain, (2tr in next st) twice, 1htr and 1dc in next st, (ss into next st.)
(3ch, 1tr in base of chain, 2tr in next st, 1htr, 1dc, ss into next st) repeat twice.
Make 4 in your colour choice.
Make an adjustable slip knot and ch2.
Rnd 1: 6dc in first chain
Rnd 2: 2dcinc in every stitch around (12dc)
Rnd 3-4: dc around
Fasten of first colour and join contrast colour to the back of first stitch on round 4.
Rnd 5: dc around using the back loop of stitches on round 4
Rnd 6-8: dc around
Rnd 9: dc2tog around (6dc)
Fasten off leaving a tail of yarn. Thread this tail through the remaining 6dc and pull to close the opening. Sew in end to secure.
Make 6 (1 in each colour).
Make an adjustable slip knot and ch3 (acts as first tr)
Rnd 1: 11tr into first ch, join with ss into 3rd ch of beginning ch3.
Ss into next st to be in the correct position to start rnd 2.
Rnd 2: 3ch, 1tr in same st as base of ch, 2trinc in every stitch around. Ss into top of beginning 3ch (24dc) move marker to st on hook
Rnd 3: 2dc, *sk1, 5tr all in next st, sk1, 1dc*. Repeat from *to* five times, 1dc in each of the last 2sts.
Rnd 4: *2dc, 2htr, 2trinc, (1dtr, 4chpicot, 1dtr) all in next st, 2trinc, 2htr, 1dc in next dc*. Repeat from *to* four more times, 1dc in each of next 2dc.
Stalk: 8ch, 1dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1dc in each of remaining 6ch, ss into next dc of round. Fasten off, sew in ends.
Make an adjustable slip knot and 18ch.
1dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1dc in next ch, 1htr in each of next 5ch, 1 4trbobble, 1dc in next ch, 7ch, 1ss in 2nd ch from hook, 1ss in each of next 5ch, 1dc, 1ch, 4trbobble, 5htr, 2dc, fasten off, sew in ends.
Make 6 (1 in each colour)
Make an adjustable slip knot and ch20
1ss in 2nd ch from hook, 1ss in next 4sts, 2dc, 2htr, 6tr, 3htr, 4dc all in last ch, turning your work 180 degrees and work down the other side of the chain using back loops only of the chain stitches to create spine, 3htr, 6tr, 2htr, 2dc. Turn.
Miss 1st dc, 1dc in each of next 3dc, 3htr, 2trinc, 4htr, 3dc, (2dcinc) twice, 3dc, 4htr, 2trinc, 3htr, 3dc, 1ss, fasten off.
Using 4 different colours and 6mm hook, make an adjustable slip knot and create a chain 2.5/3m long.
Sew leaves in the suggested arrangements, or get creative with your own placements, and then your gorgeous crochet autumn garland is ready to hang!
