Check out her step-by-step tutorial below to discover exactly how to create this pretty project for yourself.
You Will Need:
- Green card
- Green, pink and yellow origami paper
- White gel pen
- Cocktail stick
- Scoring board, scoring tool and shaping tool
- Shredded tissue paper
- Terracotta pot
- Glue gun and glue sticks
Dark Green Paper Cactus:
Trim green origami paper 15cm square, fold in half then fold into quarters. Turn over, then fold in half diagonally, then fold in half the other way.
Lay the paper with a corner at the top then lift and fold both sides so they lay on the top corner. The bottom corner should then lay flat on top, forming a diamond.
Lift up one fold of the diamond so it’s upright then flatten and crease flat. Repeat with the other three folds.
Lift up one fold from one side then fold over on top of the front. Fold the top corner down then crease flat. Repeat with the other four sides then tuck each creased corner inside.
Fold the top corners into the centre then crease flat. Repeat on the other three sides.
To make a flower for the top, trim yellow origami paper 10 x 2cm then snip along one edge to create fringing. Wrap around the top of a cocktail stick then glue in place. Open out the fringing then place in the top of the origami cactus and glue in place.
Small Round Cactus:
Use the template provided to trace four shapes on to green card then cut out. Trim slits as shown on the template then score down the centres. Colour the spikes with a white gel pen.
Fold each piece slightly, then slot one piece with a slit at the bottom over a piece that has a slit at the top. Repeat with the other two pieces then glue them together in the centre.
Long Thin Cactus:
Use the template provided to cut ten shapes from green origami paper. Score each one down the centre then valley-fold. Apply glue to the back of one folded side then adhere another on top. Repeat with the other pieces.
Snip around each edge then roughen up the edges slightly to create ‘spikes’.
To make a flower for the top, trim pink origami paper 4cm square then fold in half, then quarters. Fold the bottom-right corner over on the top-left corner, draw a petal on, then cut out and unfold the paper. Repeat with 3.5cm paper and 3cm paper then shape the petals with a shaping tool, layer up then glue together.
Finishing Your Prickly Project:
Glue some shredded paper in the bottom of a small terracotta pot then glue the cacti on top. Tuck extra shredded paper around the cacti and glue in place… and there you have it: one perfect papercraft cactus display!
