Sarah Cawood's Christmas Wreath DIY Tutorial

What’s not to love about a wreath at Christmastime? I have them festooned all over my house come the holidays. They can, however, be REALLY EXPENSIVE! You only need look in the window of your local florist: an average price would probably be (conservatively) £35!! Well, if your budget doesn’t quite stretch that far (and who’s does, tbf?) then I HAVE A SOLUTION! It’s cheap, it’s beautiful, and it’s deceptively easy to make... and here’s how!

Step 1:

Christmas Wreath DIY Tutorial step

Begin by assembling everything you'll need to complete the project. I tied the bow first, so that I could get it picture-perfect!

Step 2:

Creating a circle template

You'll need something round in the size you want your wreath to be, so that it's actually circular when it's complete! I used a dinner plate to draw a template.

Step 3:

Arrange your discs in a circle you're happy with, then grab your glue gun and get ready to start sticking! I found this to be the easiest way to attach the discs to one another to form the wreath base.

Next arrange your second layer of discs over the top of your first. Try and place the drilled holes nose to nose, as the next stage will hide these!

Now it's time to tie a knot around your pine cones so that you can hang them from the centre of your wreath. Try to find cones with some nice gaps near the top, which will allow you to knot the string off, and easily hide it!

Step 6:

I wasn't really sure how I was going to attach the pine cones so I fell back on my trusty glue gun. (Not literally... that would really hurt.)

Next, lay your orange slices over the drilled holes in the middle of the wood discs as shown above.

Step 8:

Finally, use you glue gun to attach your bow to the centre of your wreath at the top - and hang it wherever you want! I think the oranges and the midnight blue really pop against our yellow front door.

The beauty of this make is that you can customise it however you want to match your decor, or even your front door - so be sure to march to the beat of your own drum when it comes to embellishing!

Let me know how you get on; we would love to see all your wooden slice Christmas wreaths here at Create and Craft too!

Oh, and a Merry Christmas to you all, God, bless us, every one!

La Cawood.
