Beautiful Brush Lettering Quote: Make Motivational Art!

Brush lettering has soared in popularity in the creative world, and it’s not hard to see why – not only can you use this beautiful craft technique to add elegance to DIY stationery and journals, but it’s a fantastic way to create your own motivational wall art, too! Here, the talented Carla Bagshaw takes you step-by-step through creating your own beautiful brush lettering quote complete with watercolour background – ideal for brightening up your workspace!
Time it Takes to Make: 1 hour
Skill Level: Intermediate
You Will Need:
- Watercolour paper
- Watercolour paint or Water-soluble pens
- Water Brush
- Washi tape
- Pencil
- Black brush lettering pen
- Piece of plastic or a glass plate (to use as a palette)
Step 1:
Once you have decided on the quote you want to use, work out how you want to space out your words. I broke this quote into 6 sections. I penciled out the lettering first, and then I marked out spacing on my paper with washi tape. This gives me a mask so that I can paint freely without going over the lines.
Step 2:
Make sure your pencil lines are not heavy; you don’t want the pencil lead to mix with your watercolour. Take your watercolour or your water-soluble ink pen and create a wet puddle on your piece of plastic with your chosen colour.
Step 3:
Use your brush pen and paint over your first ‘box’. Continue on with the different colours until you have painted the full page.
Step 4:
Use your black brush pen to go over the lettering to complete your home décor piece. You can choose to mount and frame your work or, if done on smaller pieces of paper, use them as card fronts.
However you choose to display your gorgeous brush lettering quote, we hope it brings you plenty of motivation! What’s your favourite motivational quote when it comes to being creative? We’d love to see them in the comments!
