You will need:

Abbreviations:

  • adjustable slip knot = magic ring
  • ch = chain
  • ss = slip stitch
  • dc = double crochet
  • 2dcinc = 2 double crochet into next stitch
  • dc2tog = double crochet two stitches together
  • htr = half treble crochet
  • tr = treble

Top Tip:  As the spiral method is used on the head (no joining with a ss or making 1ch to start round), place a stitch marker at the beginning of the first round and move it up every row.

Instructions:

USING UK DC (= US SC)

NOSE:

With Dark Blue yarn, make an adjustable slip knot and chain 2

Rnd 1:  Work 8dc into second chain from hook

Ss into next dc of the round and fasten off.

HEAD:

With Soft Blue yarn, make an adjustable slip knot and chain 2

Rnd 1:  8dc in 2nd chain from hook (8sts)

Rnd 2:  2dc in each stitch around (16sts)

Rnd 3-4:  Dc round

Rnd 5:  1dc, 2dc in each of next 5sts, 10dc (21sts)

Rnd 6:  (2dc, 2dcinc) three times, 12dc (24sts)

Rnd 7:  (3dc, 2dcinc) three times, 8dc, 2dcinc, 3dc (28sts)

Rnd 8:  (2dcinc, 3dc) around (35sts)

Rnd 9-11:  Dc round

It is much easier to embroider the eyes and sew on the nose at this point.  For the eyes position use the first and third increase stitches on round 6.  With the royal blue yarn over sew stitches on round 5 and 6 to create rounded shape.

Rnd 12:  [3dc, dc2tog] around (28sts)

Rnd 13:  Dc round

Rnd 14:  [2dc, dc2tog] around (21sts)

Start to stuff

Rnd 15:  [1dc, dc2tog] around (14sts)

Rnd 16:  [dc2tog] 7 times (7sts).  Slip stitch into first dc of the round and fasten off leaving enough yarn to sew up.  Weave yarn end in and out the front loops of the 6dc of last round and pull tight to close opening.  Sew in yarn end to secure.

EARS:

With Soft Blue yarn, make an adjustable slip knot and chain 2

Rnd 5: (2dc, dc2tog) 4 times (12sts)

Ss into next dc of the round and fasten off.

ARMS:

With Soft Blue yarn, make an adjustable slip knot and ch2
