Sun’s Out… Time to Have a Crafty Party!
Now that the sun is starting to shine and the days are much longer, it’s time for us to dust off our barbeques and start preparing for those much-loved summer garden parties! Here at Create and Craft HQ, we absolutely love planning a party and getting crafty at the same time; that’s why we’ve dedicated a whole blog post to garden party crafts.
We know our British weather is unpredictable, but we’re not going to let the chance of rain dampen our spirits. We’ve compiled some fun projects to keep you busy this summer, and, more importantly, to make your garden party the bee’s knees! Let’s get this party started…
Fun For All the Family
Loved by kids and adults alike, a piñata is the perfect entertainment piece for garden parties.
A homemade cone piñata is really easy to make. All you need is newspaper strips, glue, and a balloon to paper mache the main shape, cardstock and tape to create the cones, and shredded tissue paper and glue to create the main decoration. Simple! We bet you’ll love it so much, you’ll be making them for occasions all year round! Piñata for Christmas, anyone?
Delightful DIY Decorations
Jar lanterns are very on trend. They transform your garden into a beautiful space where you can entertain family and friends all summer long – no matter how late it gets.
You can easily craft your own shabby-chic lantern by decorating the outside of a glass jar with lace and a little bit of hemp cord, then filling the bottom of the jar with salts to give it a hint of colour. It’s that simple! Alternatively, you could decorate the outside of a glass jar with glitter or decoupage if you want to achieve a slightly different but equally stylish aesthetic.
Table settings are a great way to bring some creativity to parties and get-togethers; they provide a practical element and spruce up your table at the same time.
The Teacup Placemats and Runner Pattern is the perfect addition to indoor and outdoor dining settings, providing both practicality and fun all-in-one! These do-it-yourself placemats and runner are easy to make – no matter your sewing abilities – and can be used over again.
No party is complete without a string of bunting! Quintessentially British, bunting is a simple decoration that you can create in any way you like, using mixed or coordinated designs.
If you want to create an array of stunning decorations that are perfect for garden parties, then docrafts’ Folk Floral Decoration Bundle is a must-have. Featuring a beautiful floral theme, it’s jam-packed with bunting, pom-poms and pinwheels, perfect for garden parties!
Poppin’ Party Pieces
We know you don’t need an excuse to get all your friends and family over to enjoy an alfresco party. But, if you’re lucky enough to have your birthday or anniversary in the sun, then a garden party is usually on the cards. Here are a few ideas to inspire you!
Homemade gift bags are thoughtful and fun to make. If you want to stay with the summer party theme, Kanban’s Cutie Pies Collection is your go-to for all things bright and summery. It includes a brilliant range of wrapping paper, bags, and tags featuring heartfelt sentiments.
A key component of any celebration is balloons, but having a party outside can mean that balloons aren’t possible. Fear not! Xcut Large Balloon Dies are the perfect alternative to traditional balloons. You can use the dies to craft table decorations, as toppers for invitations, decorative elements for cards or gifts… the creative possibilities are endless!
When it comes to food, desserts are arguably the best part of any menu. This Treat Pops Display Set from Wilton is perfect for any summer get together. The set enables you to serve delicious layered treats; combine layers of delicious sponge cake and icing with sprinkles, and you’ll be able to emulate the look of ice-cream – perfect for your summer celebrations!
