Cassie Brown’s Airbrushing Colour Charts

Here at Create and Craft we’re always looking for fun ways to experiment with our crafts. Luckily for you we have Cake Ambassador Cassie Brown on hand! Here she is talking you through her colour chart for cake airbrushing. Why not have a go yourself?

“I’ve been having some fun with the Kroma and Cassie Brown airbrush colours by mixing the different colours together to create a small colour chart. I thought this would be really useful information and you can even build on this by adding your own mixes.

I start with the main set of 11 colours and spray them one by one onto a piece of card. I like to spray very lightly to start with, then heavier at one end of the card to get a graduated, shaded effect. This will show you the different shades the one colour can be. The lighter your spray, the lighter colour you will get. Personally I never use white, instead I just spray a colour extremely softly.

Then I count 3 drops of one colour and 1 drop of another, gently mix in the colour well of the airbrush and spray on a spare piece of paper first. I then spray onto my colour chart using the shaded effect. You will be surprised that the colours don’t always turn out as you expect – that’s half the fun in experimenting!

As you do these remember to write down the colours as you mix them so you know how to recreate them! Also if you are using different brands of colour and mixing them remember to write that down too.

Tip: Remember to rinse the airbrush with water in between each colour mix so you get a true colour.

Tip: It’s great fun mixing different brands together, so have a go! Just make sure they are airbrush colours that are suitable for the airbrush you are using, such as yellow, orange, apricot, red, pink, violet, blue, teal, green, brown and black.

Have fun with this; it’s well worth the time. Feel free to print off my colour chart as a guide for yourself. Happy Mixing!” Join us on social for more cake fun!
